Can you tell us a bit more about you?

I’m Yazz, living in Tokyo. They say that I’m a man with a sense of humor. As I am free-spirited and adventurous, I went to Sydney to study English, and to London to study Fashion Design. I launched AVEC MOI in 2014, a company that creates patchwork bags.

Where are you from?

I'm from Tokyo, Japan and I live here right now.

Tell us a bit about your background?

In my childhood, my parents were always busy with their business. I could say that I was raised at a shop Sanrio (The company which produced Hello Kitty) as it is near my house. They always welcomed me and play with me. I think they introduced the sense of ‘Kawaii’ in me. 

After graduating from London College of Fashion, I went back to Japan, worked for Japanese fashion companies as a Designer for women, strippers and dogs’ clothes. Working for LA fashion brand, Fifi & Romeo, was a good experience for me. They changed my perspective in designing.

Can you describe your followers? 

As I post English in my Instagram account, many foreigners follow me. They are mostly creative people living in the fields of fashion, art, music, patchwork or embroidery. They inspire me a lot.

How would you describe your style, image, storytelling?

AVEC MOI is all about FUN and HAPPINESS! I’m trying to make people happy by using various prints and colors on my designs.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Arts, fashion, and music always inspire me. For my patchwork, I also get inspiration from tiles.

When your passion for design start? 

Actually, I wasn’t interested in designing. I wanted to be a Fashion Stylist. However, my tutor advised me to study Fashion Design. Since then, I became into designing clothes.

What material do you use for work? 

Woven fabrics are my favorite, but recently, I started using leather which I think is my next bid step!

What is your biggest accomplishment as a designer?

I feel like I haven’t really accomplished anything big yet. I just started, but I believe that I will succeed with my brand.

Can you tell us a bit more about AVEC MOI TOKYO? 

AVEC MOI was launched in 2014. It’s a company that creates patchwork bags using many colors and prints. It might also venture in making clothes in the future.

What do you usually like to go to chill/take a drink? 

I’m done being a party animal. Staying at home to read books, and to listen to music is my style right now. Well, my friends always invite me out. I guess I should go out sometime.

What is your favorite place to travel? 

I love New York! It’s an exciting city! I love the people, the atmosphere in the city, the food, the arts… they have everything that I love!

What is your motto in life? 

Life is too short. Take it easy. Be happy!
